Quantitative Sedimentology Laboratories

Welcome to Quantitative Sedimentology Laboratories

In 2005 I accepted the position as Robert E. Sheriff Professor of Sequence Stratigraphy at the University of Houston. This is part of an initiative to enhance petroleum geoscience research and teaching at UH where we already have a center of excellence in exploration geophysics. I am using my experience and contacts in industry to maintain and build a research program focussed on areas of interest to exploration and production of hydrocarbons.

We are presently experiencing a protracted “Boom” in the oil industry but there is a shortage of highly trained students that can fill employers needs. After many years of downsizing and decimation of corporate research labs it is universities who will have to maintain excellence in petroleum-related geoscience research and training. Through sponsorship of our research programs, we will be in a position to provide the next generation of petroleum geologists required to satisfy the intense hiring needs during this upswing in profitability.
